My shooting video: Guns and fun

Thu Sep 15, 2005, 5:15 AM
What do I mean when I say "I'm going out to shoot!"?

A while back, I made a video to try to show the un-initiated what it is I do when I go up to the range. "How can shooting be fun?" What I compiled was a video of a typical two days' shooting. If you've got any questions or you live in the area, let me know!

This is about 13 minutes long. Enjoy! And post comments!

Anyone who questions the joy of sho0ting is a liberal pacifist candyass. :shakefist:

Here's what I want. -> [link] -> The UltraMag 50. :plotting:

I've heard of one too many (Read: 1) incident of the shooters' retina seperating from the inside of their eye due to the recoil. I don't think I would shoot a bolt-action .50cal. :-) Call me a little sissy girl, but daaaamn. Al of the recoil being transferred straight into you. Bleh.

I've never heard of that retina thing happening. I've only ever fired one .50 BMG rifle before, and several times to0. It's a top-fed bolt-action with off-set sights. Make and model is Boys Mk.1 Anti-Tank Rifle modified for .50 BMG (was originally .55 caliber). The recoil is no problem because it has several mechanisms for recoil mitigation, such as a thick butt pad and a reciprocal barrel.

I think the UltraMag 50 is semi-auto. I'd have to see the right side of the receiver to know for sure, but none of the pics in that link show it from that side.

Scratch that. You're right. It is a bolt-action. It kinda resembles an FG-42, being side-fed. I like that design concept because it allows for a larger magazine while being unobstructive. Top-fed is nice, but requires off-set sights or an off-set scope.

Yeah, if the pictured one is bolt action, I'm scurred. Straight-back skeletonized stock... No springs to make you feel better... Probably lighter than usual... Yeesh!

Yeah, I don't understand why they'd put THAT kind of stock on THAT kind of rifle. ;p

Here's a .50 I like even better -> [link] -> The Barrett M-82A2, an over-the-shoulder bullpup version of the M-82A1. To0 bad they don't make a southpaw version.

I think I'd like to see any of them fire that .50 while standing up.

The felt recoil is reduced so much that it feels like a 12-gauge! :D Totally within human tolerances.
